I have never really liked cats. I apologize to you cat lovers, it’s nothing personal. Cats do…well, whatever they want to do. We had a few cats growing up.  Mainly because of my brother.  One day his friend found a cat in a field and my brother brought it home. He never named it.  It was just “kitty”. When it had babies, we called it “mama kitty.”  That cat didn’t have much use for us.  She would come around for food but never really wanted relationship.

After all of us kids grew up and moved out, mama kitty was still living with my parents. Mom and Dad decided to build a house in  a new neighborhood that was attached to our old neighborhood.  Thier new house was about 4 blocks from our old house.  On moving day we brought mama kitty to the new house. By sundown she was back at the old house.  We did this over and over for several days.  Sure, she would spend a few hours around the new house, but invariably she would always end up back the old house.  This is where I learned the true nature of cats.  They only do what they are determined to do.  You can’t make a cat do anything.  Dogs can be trained to sit, stay, come or whatever. But not cats.

I drove by a veternarians office today and the sign said, “Cats don’t change without thier concent.”  So true.  But that doesn’t just apply to cats.  It true of humans too.  We try everything to make people around us change.  We try to convince them, pray for them and show them a better way. We may even pick them up and put them in better circumstances, yet they always go back.  Its a frustrating experience. But it proves this statement true. People don’t change without their consent.

Eventually mama kitty just stayed at the old house, even after the new owner moved in.  For us, we had to just make up our mind that we couldn’t force the cat to stay.  We had to move on.  A few months later we went to the old house to see if kitty was there.  The owner said she was there for a while, but they didn’t feed her.  Eventually there was nothing for her there and she moved on.   But mama kitty wasn’t willing to leave until she gave her consent. But she did leave. Change only happens in peoples lives when they become convinced for themselves that they should change.  Hurts, hangups and sins can never removed by others.  It must be released by the one holding them.  And it won’t be a day sooner than they make up their own minds that they want something else. Not sure what happened to the cat, but I am sure of one thing. What ever happened to the cat was exactly what the cat wanted.
